Poor posture in sitting is the major cause of pain and stiffness in the back, and for that matter the neck. Almost everyone spends a lot of time sitting. Even if your job does not involve sitting down for lots of stretches of time. You still probably spend a fair amount of time sitting in the evening. And as likely as not you are sitting either in a couch or in a easy chair. Most people who sit for a long time will eventually develop poor posture. This in turn will lead to lower back pain. One of the best sciatic remedies is to concentrate on correcting bad sitting posture.
When you sit in a particular position for more than a few minutes the muscles that support your back will start to become tired. When these muscles become tired you start to relax and that in turn will start to place pressure on your back.
As you relax your body sags, you slouch into your chair. This position is not exactly sitting, it is more like sitting down crossed with lying down. If you stay in this position for too long eventually your ligaments will become overstretched and there will be resultant pain and suffering.
The real threat however is that once this slouched position becomes a habit and is your regular sitting position it can cause distortion in nucleus of the discs in the vertebral joints. Once this happens you will suffer pain not only by sitting in certain positions but also from certain movements.
Even if the original cause of your back pain was not poor sitting posture. Once you are suffering from back pain your poor sitting position will exacerbate the problem and will worsen. At first you may find that you suffer from lower back pain only when you are sitting down. In this case the pain is caused by the overstretching of soft tissues and it will only take a few seconds to recover. But as the problem progresses you will find that you have increased pain as you are standing and you must walk carefully for a short period before the problem correct. At this point it is likely that there is distortion in one or more of your lumbar discs. Your poor sitting posture has already lead to a minor distortion in the disc.
Eventually if the problem is not dealt with then you will reach the stage where you are suffering from agonizing pain upon standing. At this point there is major distortion in the effected discs.
The sooner poor sitting posture is corrected that better. If the problem is dealt with quickly the problem can be quite easily fixed. But more permanent problems can ensue if not addressed.
